blazingfire1993 said: so im looking on getting a longboard and i want to build it up for freeride and partially for cruising so what do you think it will be the best option in trucks weels board brand and all that ?

Well for trucks I would look into Randals, paris, bears, or indy 215’s if you’re leaning to the carve/freeride deal. Indy’s are the only ones that are TKP (traditional kingpin) Basically that means they’re a big skateboard truck. They ride lower than more reverse kingpin trucks, and widen the wheels base. I know a lot of people like to freeride on them because they give more of a lean then turn. I personally don’t favor them though, but that’s just personal preference. Most I’ve seen are the Indy hangars with a mhs hybrid baseplate, they tend to get a bit pricy though. Paris, bear, and randals all ride higher then indy’s but are more stable due to the reverse kingpin make. My personal favorite of the three are paris, I like the turn they give though they’re very similar to randals. Paris are a bit lighter than randals and also shorten the wheelsbase which can cause problems with bite. Randal hangars tend to be on the heavier side when compared to paris, but are less likely to bend. Bears seem to be the more stable out of the group, but can still give a nice carve when set up right. One of our guys had a lbl custom komodo with bears setup with stock bushings cupped washer roadside, and no washer boardside. that setup had nice turn and was still able to keep stable at high 30’s. Paris seem to have the best stock bushings. They come with a standard 90a divine set that i’ve heard no complaints about. Randals used to come with double cones, they went from using I think 89a yellow bushings to the red 92a. Both gave good turn, but now they’re using the 91a kush barrical bushings. They are a combo of both a cone and barrel with the idea that it will give the turn of a cone and stability of a barrel. It sounds good on paper, but when they’re broken in they don’t feel as lively or responsive as one would think. Bears I think come with 83.5a barrels all around? I rode a switch for a while that had bear 852’s but had the pumpkin bushings in them and they felt miserable, stable but miserable. Wheels- Any type of wheel can slide, any type! yes even from centrax to walmart brand wheels, but it’s about how well, easy, controlled, and consistent they slide. Hype of different wheel companies can screw up someones thoughts of a good wheels. People just getting into the scene have all this hype for otang and that they’re the best slide wheel, and some more freeride oriented kids will hate them. Anyways, some of the best starter wheels I think are Otangs freeride lineup (excluding the new baluts) The stim, fat free, and durian are wheels that can give grip at a higher speed, but will still kick out for slides. Abec11 is a company I enjoy wheels from but some of their wheels, mainly their classic thane wheels, can lack needed grip. A list of wheels I think are good for straight up freeride are venom tweakers, Abec 11 flashbacks and, freerides, Zombie hawgs, hesher snowballs, otang baluts, sec9 centerset raceforms, pink powerballs, rainskates mega tsunamis, divine street slayers, cult classics, and volante checkers. I think those wheels I listed are good if you already know how to slide, If you’re learning I think wheels like Otang, seismic bootlegs, fireballs, or wheels with a little more grip are good to learn on. So…. finally, we get to boards. a typical freeride board is going to be symmetrical because then you don’t have the worry of which way to go forward on it during all those spins and such. It also gives a similar feel both ways it is ridden. I personally prefer riding top mounts.  A top mounted board means the trucks are mounted on the (top) surface of the board rather then dropped through. Top mounts will have a lot more grip on the ground and have a different leverage on the trucks compared to drop throughs because the riders weight is being pushed down on top of the trucks rather than a pulling force which drop throughs have. Drop throughs will give a more stable ride because it puts the rider lower. The there are boards that have a dropped riding platform and sometimes even drop through mounting which makes for an extremely stable ride. A lot of freeride board I’ve heard a lot of good things about are the landyachtz 9two5, nelson spindrift or topspin, sec9 super/mini shaka, Earthwing supermodel, comet boards, jet boards, and rayne boards. Rayne can get real pricy though. Well…. that was a crap load I wrote and I hope it helps you out a bit even though a lot of it might be grammatically incorrect or pointless rants, yeah, anyways happy shopping!
